Waterway WOW! April 21 – May 4
The Arboretum Waterway is an iconic part of UC Davis and an important piece of our campus water infrastructure. But, it can get a little unsightly at times..a normal occurrence in ponds where the water doesn’t move. We want to elevate the function of this “pond” to be more than just a place where campus stormwater and recycled water is released. Our vision is to make the Arboretum Waterway reflect the environmental expertise of UC Davis and create a place for community and visitor engagement.
Right now contractors are working on re-engineering about a 1/3 of a mile our 1.5 mile long waterway. (LEARN MORE.) Once they’re done, we will have thousands of square feet of empty banks. That’s where the Waterway WOW! campaign comes in.
We need help to raise $50,000 to revegetate the banks with over 6,000 plants and launch a pilot internship program where students can gain experience managing and enhancing this complex system.
The Waterway WOW! campaign launches during UC Davis’s Give Day, a campus-focused giving day, which runs from noon on April 21 to 5 p.m. on April 22. It then continues with a social media countdown spotlighting trivia questions about the Arboretum Waterway designed to educate and improve community knowledge about the history and future of the Waterway. The Waterway WOW! campaign then concludes on May 4 during the Big Day of Giving, our region’s community-wide giving day.
Watch for news about contests, giving opportunities and other ways to participate throughout the campaign. Your gifts during this timeframe will help make our Waterway vision a reality. In addition, local families that have already pledged gifts will match your donation!
Thank you for considering a gift to this campaign!
