Everything must grow! Nursery offers public, members extra incentives to plant

To conclude their fall plant sale fundraising season, the Friends of the UC Davis Arboretum and Public Garden host a popular clearance sale at the Arboretum Teaching Nursery. However, this year they are hoping for even better attendance with the help of additional incentives.

“We are offering the public 20% off everything in our inventory, but our members – as a thank you for their additional support – will receive 40% off,” says Carmia Feldman, assistant director of the UC Davis Arboretum and Public Garden.

“We’ve never offered discounts this big for members, but it makes sense,” says Taylor Lewis, nursery manager. “We truly appreciate their help and we really need to make room for the next batch of plants we’ll be offering in spring!”

How are they able to offer such a large inventory? The UC Davis Arboretum and Public Garden offers a robust nursery management and plant propagation program for students interested in environmental leadership roles and applying the knowledge they learn in the classroom to real-world settings – like the nursery. Over the years this Learning by Leading™ team has grown, along with a dedicated group of community volunteers – together they expanded the inventory the nursery can offer to our region.

“Customers at our first two plant sales this fall took home the cream of the crop,” says Lewis. “But, there’s still plenty of crop! We hope these incentives help us find good homes for all these plants before winter and inspire the gardener inside everyone.”

The public is welcome to attend this sale for great discounts of 20% and more. To receive 40% off, the public can become a member by joining online, at the door or by calling ahead. See our plant sale webpage for more information: arboretum.ucdavis.edu/plant sales.
