About the Waterway Stewardship Internship

As part of the Arboretum and Public Garden’s Learning by Leading™ program, Waterway Stewardship interns gain practical experience improving the water quality, ecological value and appearance of the Arboretum Waterway. Interns explore sustainable environmental design, stormwater management and native habitat restoration in an urban setting while learning how local stewardship contributes to broader environmental goals.

During weekly meetings, interns collaborate on student-led projects and Waterway management tasks that explore water quality, connect people with nature, and support research and community education. Working alongside staff and student leaders, interns build teamwork and leadership skills, contribute to the care of a campus landscape and connect with the wider Learning by Leading community.
