Pollinator Garden

The Pollinator Garden is designed to attract and be a suitable habitat for pollinators, like bees, birds and butterflies. The garden, part of our Environmental GATEway which includes the nearby California Native Plant Meadow, Hummingbird GATEway Garden, and Arboretum Teaching Nursery, is also an integral part of the campuswide commitment to being pollinator-friendly (Bee Campus USA).

A large triangle-shaped landscape with paths on all three sides, this densely planted area features smaller-sized plants that provide an interesting array of color for seasonal interest and food for our beloved pollinators. The garden sits adjacent to our Mediterranean Collection where larger, woody perennials create a hedgerow of plants that not only provide flowers, but also a place where birds foraging in the nearby native meadow can hide and build nests.

We hope a diverse fauna will be attracted to our flora, including visiting humans! Staff, students and volunteers work together to maintain and develop educational programs throughout the Environmental GATEway to help our visitors experience nature and learn more about the fascinating complexity of life on earth and how humans can create spaces for its support.
